What should you do to prepare for an Open House?

If you are planning on selling your home, it must look clean and appealing. The following are some steps to help you make your house impeccable, pristine, and definitively inviting.  This will determine how successful your open house is and shorten the time it takes to complete a purchase once it hits the market.

Without much further ado, we begin:

Clean Up

Pretend that your visitors will all come with white gloves sliding their fingers through every length of it. If you want your home to live up to such scrutiny, you might want to hire a professional cleaner to clean your carpets, remove any stains, and wash your windows.

Place Furniture and Accessories

According to experts, an empty house is less likely to sell than one with furniture in it. It is not hard to fathom why.  When people come to a house, they want to come to a home. But do not overdo it. Avoid the clutter.  When it comes to staging your home for an open house, less is more. Consider placing small accessories such as hand towels in the bathroom, or an aromatic candle on a counter.

Remove Personal Items

Potential buyers want to picture their home as theirs. Finding pictures of you and your families will make this process more difficult. If you have a huge frame of your family hanging on the wall of the living room, substitute it with a painting. 

Remove Your Pets

During the open house, there should never be pets walking around or even being heard. If possible, conceal the dogs or cats in an area where they cannot be seen. Perhaps a family member will take them for the day.  

Make it Bright

Open all your curtains and let there be light. Make your house shine with natural sunlight. 

Bake Something

Ah, nothing beats the smell of freshly baked cookies when you enter a house. But don't stop at the baking.  Offer your potential costumers a thank you cookie.  It will help the tour be warmer.

Be Professional

Provide information, spread the word, and if possible, back off. Let your realtor speak for you. If you are present at the open house, you will be tempted to share personal stories, anecdotes, or other things deemed unnecessary.
