Bloomingdales Accidentally Gives Away $25, 000 Store Credit

Can you imagine going on a mega shopping spree on someone else’s dollar? What would you do if, thanks to Bloomingdale’s, you could buy a Louis Vuitton bag and some diamond earrings for your wife, without spending a dime from your own wallet? Well, some lucky customers got to do just that, after the department store gave thousands of dollars worth of store credit. By accident. Oops!

Last week, Bloomingdales had a great promotion; for every loyalty point that you have, you will receive a dollar. However, despite the unearned points, one loyalist got a $25,000 gift card, thanks to a computer glitch. He noticed his balance and immediately cashed in before the mistake could be corrected! He made online orders and in-store purchases.

Unfortunately, the excited shopper was contacted and told that he had to return the expensive items that he acquired with his bonus cash. Even more, the managers of the store apologized to each client and offered, instead of the big gift cards, a $100 reward for returned items.

“A small subset of Bloomingdale’s Loyallist participants were accidentally issued rewards gift cards with amounts that were clearly incorrect. The company caught the mistake last week and is re-issuing replacement gift cards with correct amounts. The company is in contact with its customers and has apologized to those affected.”

When someone is offering you a shopping spree of a few thousand dollars, you don’t refuse it. Since the Terms and Conditions of this promotion does not mention a situation like this, the customers thought that the justice is on their side. What did the store do? Apparently, some of the officials told the customers that if they don’t return the items, they will be banned from the store forever.
